The Landscape of Sports XR

When it comes to adding distinct value to consumers with spatial XR techniques, leveraging live sports data offers some of the most compelling possibilities that push the boundaries of entertainment. Advances in computer vision techniques have given leagues the ability to track positional data of all aspects of gameplay with immense speed and accuracy. Applications include second screens to track fantasy statistics, virtual cameras to see gameplay from a new angle, companion apps that overlay data on top of plays from wherever you are sitting, and completely new ways of remixing and reviewing replays. Stadiums themselves are the perfect micro-metaverses, providing a mappable canvas rich with data to be visualized, commerce to be communicated, and passions to be expressed, while new devices give at-home viewers ways to get closer to the action. In this talk, Nexus Studios' Head of Immersive will dive into some of the more exceptional use cases for XR for sports across a spectrum of leagues, technologies, and platforms, and discuss who is using this technology, which companies are poised to capitalize on it, and where this technology is going next in the very near future.
