Implementing User-Centered Design Approach to Impact the Future of Patient Education
Innovative technology alone doesn’t transform healthcare—listening to the end users does. In this session, Dr. Anne Lord Bailey and Dr. Linda Ciavarelli share how the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and HouseCall VR’s immersive patient education modules are leveraging user-centered design as they seek to improve veteran care. Through the VHA Innovation Ecosystem’s Greenhouse Initiative, frontline VHA staff and veterans provided critical feedback that helped refine and optimize HouseCall VR's diabetes patient education, ensuring it met the real-world needs of both patients and providers.
Through an exploration of key findings from over a hundred hours of user testing, this case study presents insights to help attendees:
- Gain practical takeaways on integrating user-driven design into XR healthcare solutions
- Create more impactful and widely adoptable innovations
- Learn about unique opportunities for collaboration with VHA Innovation Ecosystem and VA's broader immersive tech program, VA immersive
